New Era 1967 - 1976

In November 1975, “The Mike Douglas Show” came to do a segment on the grounds of the San Diego Zoo. Goodwill Ambassador Joan Embery hosted Mike Douglas and shared several animals and stories, but there was one guest in particular that made a big impression: a 17-foot-long Burmese python that required four reptile keepers to handle (seen here, bringing the reptile to the set)! Mike Douglas was game, though, and helped hold the snake along with actress Susan St. James, Joan, reptile curator Dr. James Bacon, and the keepers during the segment.
